  • We encourage positive discipline because it teaches self-esteem.
  • We do not believe that punishment works because it only teaches fear.
  • When there is a problem, we intervene, remove the child from the area of conflict ( fighting for a toy etc. )
  • We divert the child to a new activity
  • If hitting, biting, or pushing occurs, we let them know that its not acceptable behavior and make them sit in a “thinking chair” to release their feelings
  • The teacher provides the structure and support for the child to think and reason it out. In the case of an extreme temper tantrum, the teacher removes the child from the classroom and stays with them in place till the child is willing to think and talk.
  • We criticize the behavior, not the child. “Catch the child being good”
  • Praise, encourage, reward, respond to and reinforce positive behavior. It takes time, patience, repetition, and willingness to change the way you deal with children.

But its worth it because
POSITIVE DISCIPLINE WORKS!!!
